Chiropractic for Golfers

New York, Babylon, NY Sports Treatment

If you play golf, then you know that your hip mobility is an important part of your swing. This may make the pain in this area extra troublesome, potentially causing you to give up the one and only sport you love. Well, you don't even have to consider such drastic measures, because chiropractic may be able to relieve hip-related pain so you can go out on the course and get in your desired nine or eighteen holes. Within our practice that serves New York, Babylon, NY, we work with many different kinds of athletes, including golfers, and our success with keeping you on the course is backed up by the scientific literature.

For instance, one study was published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine involving a 70-year-old female patient with left hip pain due to osteoarthritis. She had been experiencing this pain for an entire year, making it chronic in nature. Furthermore, upon assessment it was discovered that she also had limited range of motion and degeneration in the left hip joint, further complicating her movements and intensifying the pain.

Over the course of the three-month study, the female patient engaged in chiropractic care a total of 16 times. In addition to spinal and hip manipulations, the treatment sessions also included mobilization and passive stretching to enhance the therapeutic effect.

Upon conclusion of the 12 weeks, the subject was assessed and it was determined that she had "increased range of motion, improved balance, and gait speed, and decreased disability" due to the care she had received. This type of improvement may positively affect your golf game, making chiropractic beneficial, especially if your goal is to move about the course easier and with less pain.
