Chiropractic Care for Disc Herniation Pain

We've helped many patients in Midtown East, NY year after year who were suffering from back problems, and some of those individuals had been diagnosed with a bulging disc. Earlier research has established that chiropractic care can be an effective way to relieve the pain of disc herniation in the lumbar spine and other studies have shown that it can relieve herniations in the neck, too.

Now a recently-published case report adds to our understanding of the advantages of chiropractic for disc herniations. This study discusses a 45-year-old woman who had a 2-year history of "chronic mild low back pain and right buttock pain." The patient reported a worsening of the radiating pain down her right leg, and also reported intermittent prickling in her right foot. These are all symptoms of neurological problems, and are serious symptoms.

The person sought help from a chiropractic physician, who treated the patient with chiropractic adjustments and "advanced myofascial release therapy." The therapy consisted of 2 weeks of adjustments and an additional four weeks of home exercises and rehabilitation.

The patient reported a "significant improvement in her low back pain and radiculopathy. In addition, she achieved some improvement in balance."

This case study reinforces what we see in our Midtown East, NY practice: chiropractic is great for decreasing the pain of disc herniations without drugs or risky surgery.
